Migraine headaches are excruciating and so often the episodes are treated and the triggers are controlled, but the root cause is not found. The trigger mechanism in a gun is what shoots the bullet. The trigger for a migraine can be light, stress and many other things.

But with a gun, pulling the trigger happens after there is a motive. The motive would be the root cause and the trigger is just a means to and end.

So, what is the root cause of your migraine headache? No one can be certain, but your migraine headache could be provoked by black mold. If you can verify mold as the root cause then you could possibly eliminate those migraine headaches that cause so much pain.

You will need to look for other symptoms caused with mold such as runny nose, tiredness, sinus trouble, sinus headaches, ears feel full, nausea, unable to concentrate, sometimes respiratory problems, itching, sneezing, soar throat and any pressure around the eyes.

Keeping tabs several times per day will help you try to isolate a mold problem. If you have a couple of the mold symptoms listed, then you may very well have a mold problem that is the root cause of your migraine headaches. Now you must figure out where the mold is festering.

Always suspect the basement, crawl spaces, wet foundation around the house, then look to the attic and wet rafters, wet insulation and any signs of previously wet areas. One way to figure out the moldy area is to notice if you start feeling bad while in it. Make a note and try again a few days later. If you feel worse again, then start isolating your water source.

Now, just stop the water. You may have to wrap pipes, fix a roof, extend the gutter downspouts away from the house, clean the sump pump pit, bleach the walls and etc. It can be a very intricate process. But the outcome is fewer migraine headaches.

If you can’t figure out that there is a mold problem, then you could buy a self mold test kit from your local store. The way it operates is that you put a test in the house, you put a test outside the house simultaneously and then following directions mail it in to their lab for the results in a few days.

If you find that the indoor mold is significantly higher than the outside mold, then maybe there is a problem. Otherwise, if the indoor mold is relatively the same as outside, then you have just eliminated house mold as the primary cause of your migraine headache.

In a few situations you could have a very high concentration of mold outside your home which is growing during the season. In which case you will have to find a proper filter and air conditioning system. But you should rule out mold as a source because the reward is your health.

Resource:

Migraine headaches in houses with overloaded mold concentrations can be eliminated if you can find the source of the mold infestation and eliminate it for ever. If you think mold is causing your migraine headaches then you should check out the other symptoms that black mold cause.

Although medical science cannot pinpoint the exact cause of headaches in a patient, some of the most common causes can typically be identified in the majority of cases. In order to properly diagnosis a headache, physician will usually categorize headaches in one of the following types. A primary headache is something almost all people are familiar with. Primary headaches are what the majority of headaches can be diagnosed as, and are almost never life threatening. Sinus headaches are associated with a deep and constant pain in the cheekbones, forehead or bridge of the nose. Cluster headaches are a far more serious form of headache, that although not life threatening, can bring about serious pain. When a cluster headache occurs, it can be accompanied by severe pain that focuses behind the eyes, also water running from the eyes and nose are common with cluster headaches.

Tension headaches are caused by muscle contraction which causes mild to moderate pain and come and go over a prolonged period of time. Significant emotional stress typically results in a contraction of the muscles, and therefore a tension related headache. The muscles that surround the skull sometimes contract, putting too much pressure on the head. Although the reasons for skull muscle contraction are difficult to ascertain, it is commonly seen as a result of emotional or physical stress. Migraines occur in certain areas of the brain, but the exact causes of migraines are unknown, however, they are related to blood vessel contractions and other changes in the brain. Migraines are associated with symptoms such as light sensitivity; noise or odors; nausea or vomiting; loss of appetite; and stomach upset or abdominal pain.

Migraine pain is moderate to severe, often described as pounding, throbbing pain. They can last from 4 hours to 3 days and usually occur 1 to 4 times per month. Chronic progressive headaches: or sometime known as: inflammatory headaches, can get worse and happen more often over time. These are the among the least common type of headache, accounting for less than 5% of all headaches in adults. Women experiencing changes in their hormone levels due to menopause, pregnancy or menstruation cycles, can get, ’Hormone headaches’. Also, chemically induced hormone changes, such as with birth control pills, also trigger headaches in some women.

Secondary headaches occur as a symptom of a more serious problem. Secondary headaches are those that are due to an underlying structural problem in the head or neck and there are numerous causes of this type of headache ranging from bleeding in the brain to a tumor. The patient history and physical examination provide the best means for determining the cause of secondary headaches, in addition to lab and radiology tests when deemed necessary. Secondary headaches can be quite painful, and may also be accompanied by other symptoms, such as sensory phenomenon. If you suffer from a headache, you should seek medical care for new onset headaches, fever, stiff neck, change in behavior, vomiting, weakness or change in sensation.

Migraine headaches can be debilitating issue that interferes severely with daily functioning and quality of life. Preventing and treating migraine headaches, however, is certainly possible with the right combination of medicine and therapy. The exact causes of migraine headaches are still something of a mystery in the medical community, but it is usually accepted that serotonin plays a large role in migraine. Low serotonin levels can frequently lead to a migraine headache episode.

A migraine headache can sometimes be preceded by what is known as an “aura.” An aura occurs when a classic migraine headache begins to develop. In a classic migraine attack, the sufferer may experience changes in vision, such as strange colors or spots that develop. Tenderness in the scalp is usually a sign of a developing migraine episode. Mood swings are also common, such as depression or irritability. These subtle symptoms can manifest as early as a day before the episode. The following migraine headaches are typically fairly intense, but do not last very long.

Common migraine headaches take longer to develop, and last longer than classic migraines. This can be seriously debilitating, and can be a real impediment to daily life. Fortunately, many medications exist to alleviate migraine pain. Sleep and plenty of fluids are very important in helping to prevent the onset of migraine headaches. During an attack, go to a quiet and dimly lit area. Use a cold compress to reduce the tension, and massage the scalp with a fair amount of pressure. Stress is believed to be one of the top causes of migraine headaches, and should therefore be avoided as much as possible.

Some foods are also believed to play a significant role in migraine development. Physicians recommend, for example, that sufferers consider avoiding red wine altogether. Canned and processed meat are also known as frequent causes of migraine headaches. Causes of migraine headaches can also include excess amounts of caffeine, aged cheese, or cultured dairy products. If you suffer regular migraine headaches, see a physician for a full list of foods and beverages that should be avoided.

One of the commonest symptoms of a migraine is an intense throbbing pain that is usually situated on one side of the head close to the area of the temple. Migraines are also frequently accompanied by other symptoms which include sensitivity to light and noise, nausea and sometimes vomiting.

Migraines are reasonably common and affect about 10% of the population of America, or over 28 million Americans. They are also much more commonly experienced by women rather than men (about 3 times as many women suffer from migraines) and can also be found occasionally in children.

Although migraines are so common and generally very painful with attacks lasting anywhere from a matter of hours to two or three days, only roughly half of all sufferers consult their physician and the rest choose to suffer in silence.

Migraines had long been thought to be were the result of a of dilation of the blood vessels in the head but, despite the fact that there is no general consensus, medical opinion seems to be moving away from this theory in favor of a genetic cause for this problem. It is now believed that migraine headaches are produced by the interaction of certain brain chemicals such as serotonin with the nerve cells. At this point in time however the truth of the matter is that we are really not sure what cause a migraine headache.

In fact there are two different forms of migraine, the first of which is called ‘classical migraine’and is characterized by an accompanying ‘aura’. In this case the term ‘aura’ is used to refer to visual light effects which are experienced immediately prior to the arrival of a headache including such things as flashing lights and bright light spots. In some cases a total loss of vision can be experienced for several minutes before the onset of the headache.

The second type of migraine is a migraine with no prior symptoms of an ‘aura’.

Just as we do not know what causes a migraine headache, we also have very little idea about exactly what gives rise to an attack, although there are some factors which do appear likely to trigger an attack. For example, getting too much sleep seems to be one factor, as does missing meals or eating particular foods like cheese.

Hormones are also believed to influence both the onset of attacks and their severity and one piece of evidence for this is the increased incidence of migraines among women. This in part is thought to be because of the effect of estrogen on the blood vessels and it has been noted in some studies that there is a link between the contraceptive pill (which contains estrogen) and migraine headaches.

Just to confuse matters however studies have also demonstrated that simple everyday activities like climbing a flight of stairs can trigger an attack, as can exposure to loud noises, cold and heat, flashing lights and even stress.

Fortunately, there are a number of migraine medications available today, although no one treatment is really effective in all cases. One thing which we do know though is that over-the-counter medicines are seldom effective and, if you suffer from migraine headaches, you are best advised to seek the help of your physician in finding an answer that works for you.

A cluster headache is one of the most painful conditions known to man and their only saving grace is that they are fortunately fairly rare. For example, although about one person out of every ten of the population suffers from migraine, only about one person out of three hundred will ever experience a cluster headache.

A cluster headache often presents as what most sufferers describe as a hot and stabbing pain behind only one eye or in the area of the temple. Their chief characteristic however is that they run to a timetable and will appear at about the same time every day often for several days, or even weeks or months at a time. They also tend to appear without warning, unlike migraines which are often preceded by several different warning signs.

Noone is exactly sure what causes these particularly painful headaches though research tends to favor the theory that they are the result of abnormalities in the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is a small gland which has an important part to play in regulating your body’s internal clock and this may explain why these headaches occur at roughly the same time each day.

Yet another feature of cluster headaches that distinguishes them from migraines is that are seen far more in men than in women. When it comes to migraines some three times as many women as men are afflicted but, with cluster headaches, studies show that they are seen up to eight times more often in men.

Standard treatments for normal headaches are almost always ineffective for cluster headaches and this is one sort of headache for which you need to seek advice from your physician.

One commonly used treatment is to breathe pure oxygen for a few minutes once the headache starts. This particular form of treatment does not work for everybody but usually works very well for those who do find that it helps. It cannot however be used to prevent a headache and only works in treating a headache once it has started.

Yet another very effective treatment is that of using a new class of drugs known as triptans which are presently being used for the treatment of migraine headaches. These drugs do however have to be taken in a fast acting form to be effective and this normally means using them as a nasal spray. However, in many cases cluster headaches can also cause inflammation of the nasal passages making this type of treatment difficult. When this happens, triptans can often be administered by way of aninjection.

At the moment there are no terribly effective preventative treatments available for cluster headaches though some sufferers find that calcium channel blockers work quite well. Additionally, in the most severe cases surgery might be considered as a treatment of last resort and several neurological procedures are available including procedures which block certain nerves and that remove a section of the brain.
