Cause of Headaches

Although medical science cannot pinpoint the exact cause of headaches in a patient, some of the most common causes can typically be identified in the majority of cases. In order to properly diagnosis a headache, physician will usually categorize headaches in one of the following types. A primary headache is something almost all people are familiar with. Primary headaches are what the majority of headaches can be diagnosed as, and are almost never life threatening. Sinus headaches are associated with a deep and constant pain in the cheekbones, forehead or bridge of the nose. Cluster headaches are a far more serious form of headache, that although not life threatening, can bring about serious pain. When a cluster headache occurs, it can be accompanied by severe pain that focuses behind the eyes, also water running from the eyes and nose are common with cluster headaches.

Cause of Migraine Headaches

Migraine headaches can very easily cause a person to lose daily function and enjoyment of life.  Preventing and treating migraine headaches, however, is certainly possible with the right combination of medicine and therapy.  The exact causes of migraine headaches remain unknown to the medical community, but it is widely held that serotonin levels in the brain play a significant role in the formation of migraine headaches.  Low serotonin levels can frequently lead to a migraine headache episode.

What Characterizes A Migraine Headache?

One of the commonest symptoms of a migraine is an intense throbbing pain that is usually situated on one side of the head close to the area of the temple. Migraines are also frequently accompanied by other symptoms which include sensitivity to light and noise, nausea and sometimes vomiting.

Cluster Headaches Are The Most Painful You Will Ever Experience

A cluster headache is one of the most painful conditions known to man and their only saving grace is that they are fortunately fairly rare. For example, although about one person out of every ten of the population suffers from migraine, only about one person out of three hundred will ever experience a cluster headache.
